If you've made it this far into this blog that means that my homepage wasn't too off-putting, which is great news! If you stumbled upon this blog by accident, feel free to stick around, maybe you'll like what you read. If you just scrolled down to view the kind of content I post without reading anything else on the home page I hope I was able to deliver.
Like the title states this is a less formal introduction to me, who I am, what I do and what I'm trying to accomplish with this little project. So with that being said, let's dive right in.
I'm from Canada, Ontario to be more specific. But i'm not from around here, as in i'm an immigrant. Moving to a new country is weird. There's something to be said about looking from the outside in, and having absolutely no idea what's going on or what to do. I didn't know what hockey was, I had an accent, snow was a wild concept to me, my lunch didn't look like other kids' lunch; sprinkle a dash of 'Not being able to speak English' and you have the recipe for a wonderful smooth social upbringing. I felt stranded, so I did what any other kid would do and adapted.
I watched, and I listened. Movies, music, comic books, tv shows, you name it. To some that's just something normal people do. But I felt that I had to take it a step further. I STUDIED the stuff, the accents, the punctuation, annunciations, the slang, EVERYTHING. Looking back it, I've probably done irreversible damage to my hearing and vision (even though i'm the only one in my family who doesn't wear glasses, yet), but it all came back to community. I was maybe 10, i just wanted to fit in. So if that meant I had to write down cool thing to say than that's all there was to it. This isn't supposed to be a sob story because it does get better. I literally received an awakening for something I truly cherish and value which is the presence of others, the stories they have to share and the path that has allowed them to cross mine. The crazy thing about a valley is that you can see the other side when you first start out. The deeper you travel however, the darker it gets and the vision gets blurred. The key is knowing that the other sides still there I guess. So yeah fast forward and we arrive here. So, allow me to reintroduce myself, I'm the film bingeing, music mining, photo taking, blog writing little African boy named Jonathan Semugaza; and I'm just getting started. Now comes the fun part. Let me know about YOU! Who are you? What's your valley? What WAS your valley? Did the mountain peak look as beautiful as you thought it would what did you learn along the way? who did you meet? Answer all of these. Answer none of these, it's all up to you. Thanks for dropping by, be good, do good and i'll see you soon! PS I'm gonna try to attach a track/playlist/album/piece of audio to one of these. Might be related to what i'm talking about, might just be on my mind for some time but I like to use music as a way to express emotions and feelings i cant really describe. So hit the needle and enjoy Breathe Again by Couros.
